Meet the Planning team
Meet the people who make up our Planning team and learn about what they do day to day and what they enjoy about working at YTL Construction UK.
Our team
Our Planning team plays a pivotal role that contributes to the successful delivery of projects. We produce accurate schedules and ensure that reporting accurately reflects the status of projects.
I look after the team of planners who provide programme planning services for water supply and sewerage network improvement projects. These could be for new developments or enhancing existing networks, or designing and constructing new systems to reduce flooding.
We work alongside Project Managers, Quantity Surveyors, Designers, and Environmental, Construction and Commissioning teams. We produce and maintain the programmes of work that inform the business of when a project will be designed and constructed before being handed over to the water company to operate.
It is a commonly used cliché, but it really does feel like a family, with a strong drive to do the right thing. The business values its staff and provides opportunities to progress in your role. I joined as a Planner, was promoted to Lead Planner, and I am now the Networks team’s Planning Manager.
My job involves building programmes for a selection of network projects, specialising in nature-based solutions. This means creating a realistic time frame from before the project starts to the end of construction, as well as managing all the various milestones along the way.
I enjoy the variety this role brings – from site visits to design updates, no two days are the same.
Our team works well together, sharing knowledge and support. Each Planner works closely with the manager of each project, which results in fun and innovative thinking.
Everyone is working towards the same end goal. We all just take slightly different paths to get there.
As a Trainee Planner, I’m currently shadowing a Senior Planner and supporting the planning of specific parts of the different programmes. I’m really enjoying learning how various schemes are managed from the ground up. I particularly enjoy collaborating with different teams to solve scheduling challenges and seeing our plans come to life on site.
The team has been incredibly supportive from day one. Everyone is approachable and always willing to help; it’s a great environment to learn and grow in. There’s a real sense of collaboration, which makes working together easy and enjoyable.
The business offers a great work-life balance with flexible hours and strong employee benefits like healthcare and a pension scheme. It’s a company that really looks after its people. There are also clear pathways for career development, which motivates me to keep improving.
What we do
Planning £13 million upgrades at Shepton Mallet water recycling centre
This was a significant project costing over £13 million to upgrade Wessex Water’s water recycling centre in Shepton Mallet. It involved taking one section of the site offline, carrying out maintenance work, and providing three new areas with equipment to improve wastewater treatment processes.
The project was delivered in phases so the site could continue to treat wastewater while the work was completed. This involved taking one section of the site offline, carrying out demolition work and installing new equipment, before moving onto the next section.
"This project has been one of my favourites to work on during my time here. The site itself had some unique challenges, and it showcased the very best in cross-team collaboration."

A seismic solution on the Jurassic Coast is a UK-first
We recently helped install the UK’s first earthquake-proof sewer liner to allow the reopening of a historic cliff path.
After a section of a large trunk sewer next to the South West Coastal Path on Portland was affected by slips on the cliff edge caused by heavy rain, we teamed up with RSM Lining Supplies Global Ltd to develop a solution which led to the reopening of the path and guarded against any future damage.
"The project’s completion is a testament to the seamless collaboration between several teams and the specialist skills that our colleagues can bring to such projects."
